RE: Air conditioning question?

Here's an update.
I contacted Keystone/Cougar via their web site on September 9, 2008. I used the feedback form from their web site, and posted about the problem. They did not respond to my inquiry.
I called them on Tuesday, September 16, and raised cain for not having a response. She told me that the unit is built to their engineering specifications, and they can do nothing. I asked if they sold a dampable air vent, and was told they do not sell one.
After fuming, I received an e-mail response on 9/18 to my inquiry from the same person that I talked to, Carmen Westlake. The text of her e-mail is below.
Mr. Manley,
Thank you for contacting Keystone RV Company. I want to apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. However, Keystone does not recommend changing the registers. This unit is built up to code and Keystone cannot advise on this.
Thank you,
Carmen Westlake

I replied to her on 9/22:
Carmen,
With all due respect, I understand what you are saying. Keystone does not recommend changing the registers. However, as a user, I can tell you this: the air conditioner does NOT have sufficient airflow to the living area in the rear of the coach. It has too much air flow to the bathroom and barely sufficient air flow to the bedroom. In addition, the unit would only cool to about 80*, running wide open, with the blinds closed, the doors shut, etc. when we were at St. Augustine Beach from August 8-15, 2008. The outside temperature never climbed above 90* the entire week. Can you please revisit this issue?
Thanks,
Scott Manley
They have not responded to this inquiry.
My dealer, Travel Country RV Center in Lake Park, Georgia, found similar-sized, but dampable, vents from Coachmen. Even though the vents are about 1/2" smaller in diameter, and do not have a flange on them like the Keystone vents did, I jury-rigged them to work.
Just wanted to follow up and let you all know that Keystone dropped the ball on this.

RE: 2009 Dodge Ram

Yep, that was the sticker. I found it a little surprising as well.
I didn't take any photos, because there are so many places that you can already see them... on the web, in person at dealerships, etc.
It's a nice truck... nice looking, appears to be better put-together than its predecessor... but DANG! What a price! :h

2009 Dodge Ram

Got a buddy in the biz, he dropped by his demo for me to eyeball...
09 Ram 1500
4.7 L V-8 with 310 HP (not sure about torque nor tow capacity)
2WD
SLT Package (cloth interior)
Crew Cab (the rough equivalent of the old mega cab)
Appearance package with 20" aluminum wheels
My thoughts on the '09 are this: Improved exterior appearance, VERY much improved interior fit, finish, and comfort.
Sticker price: $34,XXX.
Rebate: $1,000
Good luck with that, Cerberus. :E

Air conditioning question?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight you all may can provide! I apologize in advance for being so long-winded, but appreciate your patience.
We just recently bought a 2009 Cougar X-Lite 29RLS, a much desired upgrade over our previous unit, a 1997 Coachmen 271 RK. The Cougar has a rear living room, picture window, and large slide-out with windows on every wall. The Coachmen had no slide out, and not as many windows, so I know that I am comparing apples to oranges from the beginning. Both units, however, have a 13,500 BTU A/C.
On our maiden voyage to St. Augustine, FL, last week, I noticed that the A/C in the new unit significantly struggled to keep the camper cold. In fact, to keep daytime temperatures below 80* inside the unit, we essentially had to close all the blinds and not come or go (opening doors) at all! It was never terribly hot in St. Augustine, but was quite humid. I don't believe the outside temperature ever rose above 90*, and most days it was overcast or rainy and in the mid 80's. By comparison, our old coach would literally cool well into the low 60's, under the same conditions!
The new coach has 4 A/C vents: 2 in the living area, 1 in the bath area, and 1 in the front bedroom. There is no way (from the factory) to close one or more of the vents to force more air-flow to one area or the other, although the unit does have the "Quick-cool" feature in the kitchen area, allowing you to essentially by-pass the vents and force the air directly from the bottom of the A/C unit. I suppose this is to be helpful when cooking or trying to get setup. The coach is also equipped with the "polar package," increased insulation and total bottom-enclosure. The air from the vents was quite cool, although I did not have a thermometer at the vent to check the temp. Opening the bathroom door did help cool the living area quite a bit.
Here's the questions (and I apologize again for being long-winded, but wanted to give as much detail as possible):
1. Is this A/C performance normal?
2. Am I wrong to expect it to cool much better than this?
3. Should I carry it back to the dealer and ask them to "do something?"
4. Is my best option just to buy a duct that can be closed off for the bathroom and the bedroom, to force all the air to the rear living area?
Thanks again!

RE: Might be about to buy a new Cougar 29RLS, need advice!

Yeah, I went for a "test tow" today (actually without any sway control or weight distribution) and noticed the light tongue weight. I am a "little" concerned about the capability of my 1/2 ton Silverado in my signature, but we live in South Georgia, and travel primarily to Florida... maybe one day will get the Pine Mountain, GA or maybe to Vogel State Park... I know that will be a slow steady pull, but do believe that I'll be within weight limits. The GVWR of the trailer is 7,700, and my tow capacity is 8,500. I believe the UVW is 6350'ish.
Keep it coming, folks. I appreciate all the input!

Anybody own one of these? We're looking at a 2009 Cougar 29 RLS, think we've got a great deal, but want first hand feedback. any Cougar owners out there, specifically the 29 RLS?
Thanks in advance!!!

RE: melted prong on camper plug

Great topic, and very timely...
This actually happened to me over the 4th weekend. Here's a question: Does the male end now need to be replaced? If so, can you pick up the male plug (only) at a Home Depot or Lowe's, or does the whole cord need to be replaced?
TIA,
Scott

2007 Cherokee 25 DD

Does anyone have one of these? I have a lead on a used 2007 for $13,000. What can you tell me about quality, or issues with the Cherokee? Anyone have positives or negatives about the company? Photos of the inside or the floor plan?
Thanks in advance!!!

RE: Which shocks for my 2500HD?

Stupid question, I guess... but here goes:
Does Chevrolet no longer use Bilsteins as OEM? Specifically, I know that this used to be part of the Z-71 package, when it originally came out. Is that no longer the case? (I have an 07 Silverado Z-71 4X4)
Thanks...

RE: New Dometic Recall Initiated March 11, 2008

First, they performed the recall on mine.
1 year later, they replaced the cooling unit (after it went out).
Don't much figure that I can argue about it, on a 1997 model camper.
Signed: Happy camper. :)

RE: St. Josephs Penninsula State Park, Florida

You may also have the opportunity to snorkel and collect scallops in shallow water. A lot of fun and great to eat. Don't forget the sunblock, OR wear a T-shirt while snorkeling.
Sidney
Be careful if you choose to follow this advice... Scallop season does not open until July 1st, so make sure it is "catch and release."
Definitely, take the boat. You won't regret that decision at all. SJSP is a GREAT beach!
